Presented by Velo Promo & Golden Chain Cyclists; Under USCF Rules & Permit #2008-345

This is a stage race of 3 days, four races for Cat 1/2/Pro, and 2 days, 3 races for all other riders listed below Category 3 start at Stage 2, the Sharon TT, not at criterium. Any category’s race may be cancelled mid-event if too many road violations. Be Sure to pick up the race bible at registration: it includes further information and possible changes of stages, prizes, laps, etc.

This is aTimed stage race FOR ALL CATEGORIES; riders must complete each stage to go on to the next stage

Registration: Cat 1/2/Pro (10: 30 to 11:30 a.m., Friday April 11 at Chowchilla River crossing on Road 613, just north of Raymond, CA) and Category 3: (9 a.m. to 10 a.m), Saturday April 12, Road 22 at Santa Fe Drive, east of Chowchilla.(see Directions) All other categories: Saturday April 12, 7 a.m. to 30 minutes before their scheduled criterium start, on Industrial Drive east of Granada in the City of Madera.

Directions: Category 1/2/Pro: (Stage 1) Take Avenue 20/20 ½ exit from Hwy 99 between Madera and Chowchilla, head east, and turn within ½ mile onto 20 ½ - this becomes Road 600 all the way to Raymond town. In Raymond, turn left on Road 613 – at County public works yard and head out 6 miles to the river: park in lot before and nearest river.) Category 3: Stage 3/Reg: Hwy 99 north from Madera to the Avenue 20/20½/Road 22 exit (7 miles north of downtown) and turn right towards the Central California Women’s Prison. Go north on Road 22 for 6 miles and then turn right on Santa Fe Drive (just after the RR tracks) to the start. **. For all other categories: Stage 2/Reg: south side of Town and Country Park: take downtown Madera exit (4th St) and head south along the freeway two blocks to Yosemite Avenue. Take Yosemite west 2 miles to Granada Road and turn left to Industrial (1 block) then left one more block to Reg and parking.

Stage One: Ben Hur Hillclimb Time Trial Cat 1/2/Pro Only. Friday April 11. 10 mile hillclimb TT, using Ben Hur Road from the Madera/Mariposa county line to the top, at Silver Bar Road. One minute starts, course is rolling for 6 miles, and steep climb for 4 more. First rider at 12 noon. Start is ½ mile west of the parking area.

Stages Two and Three: Madera Criterium and Sharon Time Trial, Saturday April 12. Races held concurrently; be sure to be at the right site at the right time. Criterium course as in 1991-07, flat four corner race, good pavement, one RR track crossing. Industrial at Commerce in southwest Madera. Time Trial is same as in 1998-07: 10 mile flat loop, north of Madera and east of Chowchilla. Roads: Avenue 26, Road 26, Avenue 24, Santa Fe Drive. Start at Avenue 26 and Road 22. The best route between the two courses is Hwy 99 and Road 22 (see Directions, Category 1&2&Pro, and 3, above). Time Trial starts at 60 seconds for Category 1&2&Pro and 3; 30 second starts for all others. No services at Sharon TT site.

Note: Starts for the afternoon time trials by differ from those posted above; be sure to check at criterium registration for updated start times.


Stage Four: Daulton Road Race Sunday April 13. same start/ finish & parking area (same as last year).: First Flight: Category 1/2/Pro, 85 miles 5 laps; Mst 35+ 1/2/3 (68, 4); cat 4 (68, 4); Mst 45/Mst 55 (51, 3), Women 35+ (51, 3); all starting just after 8 a.m.. Second Flight: Cat 3 (68 miles, 4 laps Cat 5 (51, 3); Women 1/2/3 (68, 4); Mst 35+ 4/5 (51, 3); Women 4 (51, 3), all starting just after 11:OO a.m. Course: 17 mile mostly flat loop with a series of short hills on one side. Mostly good pavement except 2 1/2 mile rough pavement section). 2/5 of course is closed to traffic.: Open sections are one-lane racing required!!! Start finish is at the top of the next to last climb, NE corner of the course, near Lake Hensley. More info in race bible at registration.

How to Enter:

---Enter On-line by clicking HERE from March 1, 2008 to April 6, 2008 for above fees plus on-line surcharge. From April 7-April 9, the fee on-line is $7 additional. No on-line or any other entry after April 9. You’ll need to sign and date your entry form/release at race registration desk.

---By Mail: You may still enter by mail, but if a group is filling, go on-line. By mail, send standard USCF/USAC entry form/release along with fee above (if Postmarked by Friday April 4) to Velo Promo/Madera 19780 Soulsbyville Road, Soulsbyville, CA 95372. For those postmarked after, add $7 These must be received by April 9; No later entry accepted. . Note: indicate what category you are entering on check or form. Entries for several races in one envelope ok, but be sure to list race names on the outside. Envelopes without names of races on the outside may go to the wrong race.

---At Race: There is no race day entry; enter by above deadlines. Entry fees include $1 NCNCA and $2 USCF insurance surcharges. Numbers will be provided.

Credits: Credit for another VP race will be given if VP is notified at velopromo@sportsbaseonline.com by 5 pm Wednesday 4/9 that you can't compete. No credit issued if you plan to enter another race instead; no cash refunds. No substitutions for cancellations. 

Champion Discounts: Champions pay normal fees up front; Current NorCal/Nevada District Road Champions and National Road Champions will get a refund at the reg desk of all but $2 per day if 1) their entry is received by the deadline above (otherwise they pay full fee, including late fee) and 2) they ride in the category they won the championship in (Master Champions may ride down in age, and ride for $2, and Juniors may ride up. District jersey is not required.

Rules/Notes: Free lap in criterium; bring wheels. Timed stage race for all. Road Race is mostly half of roadway; disqualification &/or event halt for violations.
