2008 Early Bird  Criterium 

Training Series

Dates: Sundays, January 6,13,20,27 Feb 3; Heavy Rain at the race site Cancels
Location: Fremont , CA , same as past 19 years.
Registration: Opens at
8 a.m. at Dumbarton & Campus, Ardenwood Industrial Park . Closes 15 minutes before each race's start.
Directions:
From
Palo Alto , take Hwy 84 across the Dumbarton Bridge towards Fremont and take the first exit (Paseo Padre). Go north one block  to turn right on Dumbarton Circle . From Hwy 880, take Hwy 84 west to the same exit (Paseo Padre/Thornton) and go north (right) one block to Dumbarton Circle .
Public Transit/ Cycling Directions:

From the Union City BART station, exit the parking lot and turn Right on Union Square , then Left at the first intersection/light onto Decoto Road .  Follow Decoto for 1 mile to the Paseo Padre, and turn right.  Continue on Paseo Padre for 4 miles (you will cross Ardenwood Drive & enter a large regional park after 3 miles), then turn Left on Dumbarton Circle .  Approximately 5-6 miles riding.  From the Atherton or Redwood City Caltrain Stations: go East to cross the Dumbarton Bridge bike route.  Turn North/ Left on Paseo Padre across Highway 84, then turn  Right on Dumbarton Circle .  Approximately 10-15 miles riding.

Course: Flat clockwise loop of good pavement, controlled streets. Portapotties, botts dots, no drinking water.
Early Bird Event Schedule:

Note: change since 2005. Jan 6,13,20,27 are training races only, no placings (though activities are good for Cat 5 and Cat 4 Women experience upgrades). Feb 3 is the only official race, with placing points and the same entry fee of $15.
     
8:30-9:15 am Category 4 and 5's with 5 or more race

     9:15  Mentor Meeting to review Lesson Plans 
     9:25-10:25 am Early Bird Mentoring for Women and  all junior girls   
     10:35-11:15 am Women 4 including Junior girls 14-18 [race]; there will be two groupsone for those with less than 10 races and those           with more than 10 races.

    11:00 Mentor Meeting for those who did not attend 9:15 session

    11:10am-12:10pm Early Bird Mentoring for Men & all junior boys  

     12:20pm-1:00pm Category 5 new riders, including junior boys 14-18 [race] all with less than 5 races experience

     1:10-1:50pm Master 35+ Category 5 new riders [race} (all must have less than 5 races experience)

     2:00-3:00pm Cat 1/2/3 's (Men and Women)

Notes:      --- We may split any Cat 4 or 5 field into two groups to keep pack sizes reasonable. --  Cat 5’s may enter only one race during the day (but may of course, also be in the mentoring session at 11:10 ).  --- Master 35+ is for riders who will be 35 or older at the END of 2007.

Entry: Enter day of event only, one new form each week. Entry fee is $15 each week. The fee covers any and all participation during the day Entry fee for Feb 3 (regular criterium race and/or training) is also $15. Insurance and NCNCA surcharges are included. USCF 2008 annual ($60) or one-day ($5 at first four, $10 at Feb 3 race) license required, available at the races (or annual is on-line at www.usac.org – and is quicker) Numbers will be provided, you may use same ones each week (if posted at registration. No late fee, no unattached fee.
